ICBU Accuses UAE of Carrying out Systematic Abuses against Migrant Workers

International Campaign to Boycott UAE (ICBU) received complaints from Sri Lankan workers last week that they were trapped in an industrial building in Dubai after they demanded a fair and just treatment by the UAE companies and authorities where they requested a minimum wage and to be paid monthly for their work not once every four months.

ICBU says that Dubai is carrying out a systematic abuse against the labour in general in UAE, moreover, UAE violates the international charters, treaties and covenants in a daily basis. The foreigner workers in UAE suffer also from the work visa which force them to have a UAE citizen guarantee who always controls the workers in all aspects of life in UAE, where the worker must take his permission in everything regarding his life and work in UAE.

ICBU revealed that the workers fear to report and complain to the authorities about these violations because Dubai authorities used to threaten of deporting them back to their countries or detaining them in the UAE prisons. ICBU calls on the international community to interfere immediately to stop UAE violations of human rights in UAE and outside UAE and compel the authorities in UAE to respect human rights laws.

ICBU also calls on all countries that respect human rights laws and the free world to boycott the UAE because they violate human rights daily, whether in the war in Yemen or with neighboring countries or their citizens or residents on its territory. ICBU stressed that it was launched in the light of the endless violations of human rights practiced by the UAE, in addition to its war crimes in Yemen and violations of workers’ rights as well as being the modern center of slavery. The United Arab Emirates today is considered one of the countries that leads human trafficking and is a key supporter of terrorist groups in Syria and other parts in the Middle East.
