ICBU Reveals Torture of Yemeni Detainees in Secret UAE Prisons in Aden

The International Campaign to Boycott UAE (ICBU) has reported cases of enforced disappearance, arrest and torture of Yemeni citizens in secret prisons of the United Arab Emirates in Aden, where many of the detainees died in these prisons either because of torture or hunger. The UAE uses the buildings of old security institutions or centers or abandoned houses as secret prisons, and these prisons are subject to a very tight security guard, these prisons are very primitive and lack the minimum security and safety standards.

The boycott campaign also revealed the UAE’s assassination of 23 Yemeni detainees in its secret prisons in Aden, and international human rights organisations have documented numerous cases of rape, torture and ill-treatment. The campaign accused the UAE rulers, especially Mohammed bin Zayed, of carrying out human rights violations in Yemen. ICBU called Europe to stop all arms deals with the UAE because the UAE uses these weapons to destabilize the Middle East and Africa.

The international campaign called for the intervention of the United Nations, the European Parliament, human rights organisations and the international community to stop human rights violations committed by the UAE authorities in its war in Yemen or against foreign residents in the UAE and to oblige the UAE authorities to respect human rights laws. The campaign also called on all countries that respect human rights laws and the free world to boycott the UAE because they violate human rights on a daily basis, whether in the war in Yemen or with neighboring countries or their citizens or residents.

ICBU said it was launched in light of the endless human rights abuses practiced by the UAE, as well as the war crimes it committed in Yemen and abuses of workers’ rights, as well as the UAE being the center of modern slavery. The UAE is today one of the leading countries in human trafficking and is a major supporter of terrorist groups in Syria and other parts of the Middle East.
